Keith’s story

After years of worsening knee pain that nearly ended his cycling ambitions, find out how physiotherapy helped Keith return to 100-mile rides—pain-free and stronger than ever.

“I'm a 70-year-old cyclist aspiring to do about 150-miles of riding every week around West Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey. Each ride typically involving climbs of around 4,500'.

I started experiencing knee pain about 3-years ago which became progressively worse, resulting in shorter rides and increasing recovery times. By July I was contemplating giving up cycling completely.

Ed Carroll had successfully treated my other knee following surgery about 10-years ago. I tracked him down to Holy Cross Hospital where I obtained an appointment within a couple of days and for a most reasonable cost.

I found the Physiotherapy facility to be surprisingly comprehensive, with all manner of equipment available. Clearly far more than what might be expected in average Physiotherapy consulting rooms.

Ed was able to utilise just one of those specialist bits of kit to measure and compare my static strength in various positions and conditions. His conclusion: the problem was that my right hip wasn't working properly and that my right knee was overcompensating! Strengthening exercises were prescribed and within a couple of months I was back to full fitness. No surgery and no expensive scans needed. I'm now managing rides of over 100-miles in a day and 6,000' climb, no problem.

I can fully recommend the extensive Physiotherapy treatment and facilities available at the Holy Cross Hospital, the professionalism of their work and all for the most reasonable fees.”
