A team of fundraisers from Holy Cross Hospital who set out to raise £1,000 in a charity Dragon Boat Race have smashed their fundraising target.
The team of 16 has raised over £2,500 towards the purchase of a new poolside hoist for The Physiotherapy Centre which is part of the hospital. The essential piece of equipment is vital for transferring patients who are unable to use the pool steps in and out of the hydrotherapy pool.
Chris Hinton, Interim Chief Executive at Holy Cross Hospital says: “Hydrotherapy is a highly valued treatment method which has a firm place in the rehabilitation process. The Daughters of the Cross, which is the charity that owns Holy Cross, opened The Physiotherapy Centre in 2009 with the aim of providing outpatient physio services to people living in the community. There are very few hydrotherapy pools in the south-east and as a service with very limited provision in the local NHS, our pool is in high demand which is why the hoist will be such a useful addition.
He adds: “The Dragon Boat Race was a wonderful positive event. The paddlers included Friends of Holy Cross, a patient’s family members and colleagues from across the hospital. Our Just Giving fundraising page has attracted many donations and kind words of encouragement which are much appreciated by the team.”
